CASE STUDY: Visioning, Local Government

Aug 27, 12:17 PM

CHALLENGE:
A beacon metropolitan council wanted to develop a ten year vision in conjunction with its key stakeholders. This involved a very diverse group of around 18 executive managers and heads of service with the intention of bringing in Members once the vision was formulated. This intervention had to be delivered in 2 ½ hours.

SOLUTION:
Bill Phillips Consulting Ltd. was brought in to support the local authority as it was recognised that Future-basing can deliver extremely rapid and creative results particularly in the area of visioning. In the 2 ½ hour session, a purpose for the group was rapidly established in the room. A date of ten years in the future was set by the group, and they were facilitated in mapping out the key headings for their strategy using key drivers such as ‘community’. Bill Phillips ensured that the energy levels were sustained in the short workshop and ensured the full engagement of all participants.

OUTCOME:
The framework for the council’s ten year strategy was developed in a mere 2 ½ hours and was developed with the full engagement of all participants. At the end of the session, the chief executive had a robust document that she could put before Members in order to gain their input.
